I won't list specific price details, but there exists the Pixel Qi screens that can be had on auction websites for ~$100. You then need a controller board... I will say zilch about this until I have one, because I can't currently afford either the screen or the board.
You might be thinking, this is probably like E-ink and it's really slow. Nope, it's actually an LCD monitor AND it includes a backlight. That part is tricky though, I'll dive into all that once I understand it better, but you can usually hook the Pixel Qi to a variety of netbooks:
Third post in and you've got yourself a free list!
So, basically why would you want to do this at all, why not use a computer inside like 90% of the population? Because it's healthier, and you won't have to worry about being vitamin D deficient (and whatever other stuff you get from being outside) and you'll ultimately get sick less unless you have some severe allergies.
I would guess that you all would be healthier and enjoy your computing experience on a 10 inch screen. What's so sad is this display is NOT being produced anymore according to their website and the fact that it's so hard to find, and needs special controllers and such.
I hope I don't get banned from the links, I think this is my second or third OP here. If links and other things need to be removed, that's fine. I hope the community likes the idea of using a laptop (netbook in this case) or PC or raspberry pi etc outside!
