I have two credit cards with capital one. They have always been great about reporting fraud to me when it does happen, and are very diligent. They'll send an email and call me.

Today, I recieved and email from capitalone(at)capitaloneemail.com, telling me that there was a data breach and I should change my password, which I did by typing in the URL myself, not that there was a link to a fake capital one page. The email also offered me to two free years of credit monitoring through http://ift.tt/2ko6Lgx. I've had similar experiences with Target, for example, so I didn't think much of it. I signed up for the service, providing them with my name, address and social security number.

Only a few hours later did I realize it may not be legit, I called capital one and they told me they didn't send the email. The weird thing is that the TransUnionMonitoring.com website does have an accurate credit report of mine.

I'm going to call the three credit bureaus now, but is there anything they can do? As far as I can tell no fraud has actually been committed, yet, but if they wanted to take out a loan in my name it wouldn't be hard.

Here is the email that I received. I feel like an idiot, I'm so good about my credit, and I never fall for this stuff.

EDIT: I appreciate everyone who's looking into this. I've put a 90 day fraud alert on the three buerus, even Innovis, just to be sure. I guess I'll just keep doing these 90 day alerts for a while.
