The prior post I made can be found here. Before I got the car shipped to me, I did a lot of work getting the value of the car in Seattle. I found out that buyers in the Seattle area place a higher value on 4WD than 2WD which was a problem for me since the SUV is a 2WD. Working with a few buyers in the area, I came away with a car valued at somewhere between $18,500 - $21,000. After I had the car shipped to me from Texas, I took it into an Infinit dealership for inspection and routine maintenance where I discovered that the catalytic converters in the engine were pretty much shot, the rear brakes were shot, no brake fluid, and a tire pressure sensor was also gone. To top all that, the car was subject to a recall for a timing chain issue. All totaled, the dealership gave me a quote of just over $5,000 to repair it all. I balked at that and asked them to fix only the brakes and the tire sensor. Luckily for me, the guy I was dealing with was very sympathetic to my situation and worked to get me a deal where the dealership went half way in on the cost of the catalytic converters. The rationale being that the car was only 2,000 miles out of warranty so the agreed to give me a deal. In all, I paid $2,920 to have everything fixed instead of $5,101. From there I struck a conversation with one of the sales manager in which I told him that I'd love to sell the car if they were willing to make me a good offer. He did an inspection of the car and pulled the payoff amount for the car which was $26,893. He then put forward an $18,000 offer but I refused and asked them to make it $20,000. After some haggling, he agreed with the provision I bring a check for $6,893 for the car to be paid off. I dropped the check off less than an hour ago and I feel relived but angry. Dealing with this car has eaten a $11,000 hole in my pocket which is a very sizable chunk of savings I had. To top all that, my sister doesn't even acknowledge any wrongdoing and the rest of my family would prefer I forget what happened for the sake of peace and harmony in the family. I'm so fucking angry because I feel I was just robbed and I am still processing in my mind as to what my next steps are in terms of dealing with these toxic family members and rebuilding my finances.
