Hey there, some background about me. I'm 23 years old and employed with little experience in investment/finance/economics. I had some cash sitting around in a recently created Roth IRA account, so I decided to buy a few stocks to get my feet wet. I'll include some rationale for each stock using my limited knowledge and research.
QCOM - Bought 10 shares at $52.80. Had a recent price drop due to the AAPL lawsuit, which scared people into selling off. The lawsuit seems a bit shaky and QCOM has a lot of other customers besides AAPL. The NXP merger is also on the horizon which is a plus. Overall I think the general feeling is that QCOM is currently undervalued and will bounce back.
XLK - Bought 20 shares at $50.90. Honestly I didn't put much thought into this one, I was looking for something stable with a steady uptrend. It was recommended by my mom who is by no means a stock expert. I think this might be a newbie mistake (to listen to others without doing one's own research, that is).
AMD - Bought 50 shares at $13.20. A little late to the AMD hype train and there seems to be some unease about whether it'll continue to go up or if it's already overvalued due to the hype. Promising news and rumors seem to be fueling the price increases, but without any new info to go off of people are buying/selling in big volume. I think a lot of people with more knowledge than I do see the promise in AMD's new line of products, so the hype has some merit. I expect the price to fluctuate a bit and then go up if financial reports look good following the product releases (which I think they will).
JCAP - Bought 25 shares at $21.85. ROIC and revenue seem to be going up ~20% annually. It has a nice uptrend and still seems undervalued.
FOLD - Bought 100 shares at $5.90. Read quite a few articles that most analysts gave this a Strong Buy or Buy rating with a promising potential for growth. Seems like a company with its own niche in drugs for rare diseases. Migalastat is doing well in EU. Some more drugs are in Phase 3 trials.
So far so good, I'm slightly in the green as of today. Yesterday I was gaining back the money that went to commission fees ($34.75). That's another problem I've found...don't trade too few shares each time. Then again, I'm doing this mainly for some practice.
Thoughts/comments? I'd appreciate it. :D
