I've seen quite a lot of posts in this sub lately showing nice boots/shoes that have been worn for multiple years and appear to have worn quite nicely. In reality, these boots/shoes shouldn't be as worn as they look for their age. The reason is generally because OP states they've worn their footwear nearly every day for a prolonged period of time.
Most footwear will give you more wears if you at least rotate them with something else every other day. This allows them to decompress and evaporate your foot sweat, which can cause footwear to wear faster and can warp leather. This is especially important if you've dropped hundreds on nice leather footwear.
Take a gander at this old thread to see what can happen without proper care. Quality Goodyear welted footwear can last 30+ years with the proper care and rotation. Please note that real work boots don't fall under the BIFL category, but will still benefit from rotation.
I'd recommend anyone looking for BIFL quality footwear or how to properly care for such footwear to take a look at r/goodyearwelt and its resources.
