So, we have been getting these letters from TG, or Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation, about a loan they are seeking payment for in my wife's name for awhile now. We are sure it is a fraudulent loan. We have checked http://ift.tt/1udLQxb, there is a $0 balance from the loans we paid off. I have searched the web, they seem like a legit collections agency, and a A- on BBB, for what its worth.
This is latest letter: http://ift.tt/2lE42AF
In this letter they will be seeking a wage garnishment in the case we don't agree to payments or we ask for a hearing or exemption. Note, the employer they have listed (that is scratched out due to privacy) is completely wrong and has never been an employer of my wife. The first/last name matches, no middle is given.
They provide an option on the "Request for hearing or exemption" form to indicate, and I'll paraphrase here, "This is not my Social Security Number, and I do not owe this loan. (Enclose all your personal information in this envelope and mail it back to us)" (pg 7, last page) (a) They don't provide they SSN they are referring to, so slightly confused there. (b) They want us to provide the SS card copy and DL copy.
This seems like the right option, but we don't want to give out my wife's personal information. Any advice is appreciated on this matter and the matter in whole, Thanks.
I'm trying to follow all the rules and guidelines here by searching for a similar post, R1-R10, ect. If I have broken one or need to modify this post, I'm sorry.
