My husband loves pictures of boats, oceans, and storms. We don't have a lot of art, and I've been trying to fix that.
I found this print in a thrift store for $3 - and then it turned out that the art was on sale, half off! So, the print cost me $1.50.
My mother was with me, and even though she didn't hate the print, she had trouble hiding how dubious she was. It looked even worse in person than in the before shot - so banged-up, so tacky. She was shocked at how good it looked with just a few coats of paint on the frame.
I figured it had potential, though, so I took it home and went rummaging on the back porch. The previous tenant had left the some grey latex paint, which I used for the frame. It took a tiny amount.
To cover the fake gold, I started with a thin layer of the grey latex paint, then I waited until it dried. I got out my son's poster paint and mixed up a dark blue-grey that I thought would set off the print well, and went back over the latex.
Very frugal, and he loved it!
