Hi,Summary: What are these floorboards and can I sand, stain and seal them? There are 2 rooms, A and B can be seen at the link below-http://imgur.com/a/hT0TbDetails:I just bought a house and I am looking at flooring options. I have looked at having solid oak/engineered wood and the cost of having this supplied and installed but for various reasons I am looking at working with the boards I already have down before I consider these more expensive options. The first question I have is what sort of wood is this? I'm fairly sure it isn't Oak. There are 2 rooms in the pictures room A is a bedroom and room B is my office.I am looking at fixing any loose boards, hiring a sanding machine over a weekend, sealing any large cracks, staining to my colour preference and finally sealing with a matte finish.I love DIY, I am pretty much a young intermediate in skill but rather than throwing down £1500 for a solid oak floor I'm looking at doing something to these existing boards. I'm not too fussy with what these boards are made of but is it plausible that I'll get a decent rustic looking floor out of this? Here is a rough idea of the sort of effect I am looking to achieve - http://ift.tt/2jtu4FU am looking for rustic, I don't mind the odd cuts to the board in the first few pictures, this is for access to the TV aerial cables. I am aware I'll be sealing that off.The house was built around 1880 and is in the North West UK. The boards are likely newer though?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is this a ridiculous undertaking? I can follow up with any photos and I'd love to post some updates when the project is completed. Thanks! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2jl2Izk
