So, my dog was due for his annuals, and we have a local vet that i priced compared 3 years ago. They seemed to be one of the cheapest in my area. Long story short, he's been going there for shots and wellness checks ever since. Last year it was $125 for everything.

So, my SO called them on Wednesday and we got his exam (and grooming scheduled because they dropped the pricing comparable to other groomers to $55).

My dog gets pretty antsy when we are there so they usually ask us to drop him off and they call when he's ready.

1pm rolls around and my fiancé heads down there to get him and they ask for $400 and tacked on a bunch of other screenings we didn't ask for. He got upset, explained our dog is pretty healthy, and they took it down to $300.

Now, i was expecting $200 max for grooming, wellness, and shots. I'm still pretty upset with my $300 bill. He's a little guy at 15lbs.

Does anyone have any tips to avoid this in the future?

Is this now a normal cost for an annual visit, plus grooming?

EDIT: Here is an itemized list.
