my friends and i are in our mid-twenties. we've always had different values when it comes to money (ex: i can't justify the price for a designer purse, manicures, shopping at whole foods, or paying $150/month for a fancy gym. my friends do). it was never an issue in college. but now that we are out of college and making more money, my friends are constantly making plans for expensive brunches, dinners, or going to soul cycle classes for like $18. what makes it a little more awkward is that i recently earned a large amount of settlement money from a car accident, so my friends understand that i no longer have student loans and have a lot left to sit on. so i don't want to seem rude when i turn down opportunities to hang out because i think paying $18 for a 45-min cycling class is stupid.

what are some cheaper ideas for socializing that might be appealing? and what are ways i can turn down events without sounding cheap or like an asshole? also, i live about 45 min away from where they all live, so typically when we hang out it's me going to where they are, since it's more practical. trying to host fun stuff at my apartment though, could be a good idea from time to time
