Okay folks, I'm at a loss here. I've spent hours googling, a couple trips to home depot, and some texts with a home depot associate. I cannot find a definite answer. I'm handy and do many projects around my house but I'm stuck here.I want to replace 7 aluminum windows (one in shake siding, others in brick) at my duplex with single hung vinyl, but I don't know what size to order, method of install (/ type of window, but probably this fin one or whatever a standard one is?), or how to do the trim outside if necessary to make sure it doesn't leak. Here's a picture of the shake siding one. Here's a corner of it close up. The surface my finger is touching seems to be an aluminum shroud they used for the case opening.Another of that corner. And another of that corner.I've learned that to remove, i may need to remove some siding because there may be a flange tucked under siding with screws through it. How would you recommend I install the new window? Where do I measure so I can order new ones? also, for the ones in brick (I can get pictures), is it the same process or a different strategy? If it is any help, the window frame is about 2 1/4" deep, and the surface my finger is touching is about 3 7/8".Everyone says replacing windows is "monkey work" but I'm at a loss!
