I've been thinking about installing a sliding barn door for my closet, since the current door is an old accordion door. When installing the hardware, I've seen some pictures where the hardware/track is installed directly onto the wall and into the studs and I've seen others where they put the track on a trim piece/board (here is another example). Is there a reason people do one over the other? For the trim option, clearly the board is screwed into the studs, but I'm assuming the metal track is just fastened into the board and you don't have to worry about screwing the track into studs, correct?I cut a hole into the drywall above the door to run some wires (flat roof/no attic in this part of the house) and I saw that there are no cripple studs and it's just 36inch wide empty space above the door. So can I just screw the track into the header instead? The header is just one 2x4. In some pictures I saw online, people frame doors with two 2x4s on top of each other. Should remove more drywall and screw in another 2x4 on top of the current one? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2jHfOZz
