My son works in tech, and he is falling into that trap of wanting more and more money. He wants it for all the right reasons, because he wants to help other people with it. He lives a pretty simple life right now, but he's losing his love of all the simple things that used to make him happy like his music and his art. He isn't happy, and his stress level is increasing daily.
How can I help him realize a more balanced life? I understand that he grew up poor (I was a single mom) and I'm proud that he actually isn't very materialistic and looks for good deals and loves thrift stores, but his work is taking over his life. He's choosing jobs based on how much money he can make, not whether it fulfills him.
I'm worried that sooner or later, he will fall into that consumerist mindset, and lose himself entirely, like I did.
