For the record, I'm not any kind of professional or even amateur carpenter, plumber, etc.

I am looking for a simple, reliable power drill. I'm in the process of becoming a homeowner and I feel like it is something I should have now so I don't fret when it is actually needed. Preferably make and model. If you just say Makita for example, I wouldn't know which one to pick.

The thing is I live in Japan now and probably will be for the foreseeable future. So I'm looking for a brand that I can find in Japan easily. Obviously Makita, Hitachi, Ryobi are here and I see Black+Decker and Bosch in small quantities.

Ideally I'd go for something like Milwaukee or DeVolt because I'm American and I hear they're some of the best but I don't want to pay a ton for importing fees.

Like I said, it's probably going to be used minimally to light usage. I'm not going to start drilling holes in everything. But I would like to rest easily knowing that it won't fall apart after a couple years of light usage.
