My mom is the anti-frugal. She doesn't understand or want to learn about tech advances that save money, isn't into haggling and just takes the first option offered. She gets sucked into cable packages and doesn't understand the downfall of minimum payments. I'm the opposite and it kills me. She will not let me help her with finances directly. However, she seems pretty receptive to me showing her some tech options that can save her money. She needs a new TV and her laptop has recently died but she doesn't have the money for either. She's also very into the typical (in my opinion) mindless time wasters like cable TV and simple games like bejeweled or solitaire, so I think a tablet would be perfect.
I'm seeing a really good opportunity to basically eliminate some big purchases in favor of a Tablet which should fit both purposes for her and perhaps we can scrap the expensive cable bill and just go with Netflix. I have never owned a tablet and built myself a computer as I like some intensive games and do a lot more with my desktop. I think I went a bit overboard on the description here but long story short can someone recommend a reasonably priced tablet that will fit her needs and hopefully last a while?
TLDR; Mom is technologically inept and doesn't care to look into how to save money. Opportunity to save on some traditional costs by getting her onto netflix through a tablet. What's a quality but not too expensive tablet to get for this?
