I hear that if you're buying used cars, it's typically best to get one that's a few years old, because then you don't have the huge depreciation after the first year and then I guess there's another significant loss of value that occurs some years after that.

Going by that rule and it being 2017, should I then be looking for something like a 2014 to get that sweet spot for a used car? Or would it technically be 2013 since 2017 just started...

My dad is wanting me to get something from the dealers that's less than a couple years old and less than 20,000 miles on it in order to get the most bang for my buck, but honestly the most I really want to go up to is $9000.

What is the typical age/mileage I can get for something like that?
