I plan to religiously save money in the tenure of my career for the next six years (60-70k at least). Afterward I wish to put a portion of that savings into a plot of land and build myself and my fiance―with my own hands and craftsmanship―a small cabin with a few rooms and whatnot.
During the construction period, my fiance and I plan to live with roommates to minimize the spending of our salaries and savings as much as possible.
Important note: this is not so that we could be recluses and get away from society necessarily, although that would be lovely. We wish to live as simply and poorly as possible and be close to nature, while still committing ourselves to our responsibilities such as going back to college and working our day to jobs while accumulating tremendous savings to put into travel and retirement.
I'm 21 right now and this goal of mine is to at least keep the future home environment as simple and peaceful and serene (regardless of the stressful duties that may come outside of it) as I can hope to. Simple living at its finest. I'm aware it won't be an easy feat and I know many years of hard work and toil come my way to make this happen. But whatever it takes, I'm willing to suffer for it.
I wish to garner support for this long term goal of mine and perhaps insight as to what I should expect, if anyone has ever done anything of this nature I would be interested in suggestions and advice. Thanks.
