Hello, Reddit.
I am expecting a baby boy in a few week, and I have an idea that I'd like to leave him a certain significant amount of cash that I'd like to save over time. Say, I want the funds to be available to pay for his tuition, or, if he doesn't go to college, than maybe he could use it as a downpayment on the house. I'd thinking of the timeframe being 15-18 years, and I think I can manage 200-300 dollars each month, at least for the foreseeable future. I want to be able to have the final say on how the money are spent when the boy grows up.
I am aware of 529 plans, but I'm not sure they are the right fit in case the boy doesn't go to college for whatever reason.
What could you recommend?
