Hello r/frugal, I'm a single guy, who knows next to nothing about ISPs, living alone in an apartment in Sacramento looking for what I hope is the most frugal but reliable ISP (if that exists). Is comcast a safe bet? I have been using xfinity hotspot for quite some time (using my aunt's account) but it's time I get my own ISP. After a quick research, I found that comcast is the one with the widest service coverage, so I'm sort of leaning into (and stuck with) them. I also like that I can use their wifi basically everywhere thru hotspots.
I don't do a lot and I'm at work from 8-5. Currently, I only browse the internet, watch a few videos, and stream music. I also plan on getting a roku tv sometime this month. I download episodes of just one show every week, and that's only a 20-minute show; and I guess once I get a tv I won't have to download them. I don't play any games. Is 10mbps enough?
Also, I don't want to pay for the modem/router rent. I am getting one off of ebay or amazon, is there any specific brand/model that you guys can suggest?
