I opened up a TD Ameritrade account. I tried to buy VFIAX and VTSAX. It said those weren't available. I called customer service. "Sorry, those funds aren't available to retail customers, you can't buy them at all unless you go through an advisor". They said this was a Vanguard rule and there was nothing they could do about it.
I see people talking about VFIAX and VTSAX all the time on reddit. I assumed I could buy them myself through an online broker account. So what is the deal? Is it just TD Ameritrade being difficult, or is it true that I can't buy them online myself anywhere? The investments are over 10,000 so it seems like I would be throwing money away to not buy the admiral versions.
