My girlfriend signed up for summer classes at a state run college. She went to Europe for the summer and forgot to drop classes and withdrawal from school until the day AFTER the deadline. Because of this, the college charged her $3000. When she got back, she had to collect letters from all the professor's of the classes she didn't attend, stating that she didn't do any work and didn't attend any classes. She then submitted these letters to the board for approval of a refund on the charges to her account. The board agreed, and removed the charges from her account.
Que to today, when she checks her credit score. The college had already sent her account to collections BEFORE the decided she didn't owe the money. So she has a collection agency trying to collect 3000 on behalf of the college that agreed she no longer owes the $3000. This dropped her credit score by over 100 points.
How do we go about getting this removed from her credit report? We're trying to buy a house and her credit dropping 100 points is pretty detrimental. We live in AZ if that helps. If you need any extra information let me know and I'll update post. Thank you all so much for you help!
