Everyone knows that doctor's visits can get expensive very quickly. I've made a list of some basic tips to save money and get the most bang for your buck at the doctor.
-
Be honest. Lying to the doctor wastes both of your time and gets you nowhere.
-
Most insurance companies offer a yearly physical with no co-pay. Make sure to schedule one and let your doctor know of any issues during the physical.
-
Get labs performed during your physical. If you have any pre-existing conditions, you will want to have any tests performed that check on it.
-
If you have kids, you'll know the high cost of all the vaccinations adds up. What the doctor won't tell you about is a thing called 'herd immunity'. Most other children are already vaccinated, so you can skip these and rely on others.
-
Prescriptions. These are very expensive. Ask your doctor if he has any samples that he can give you. Often times, they will give you enough to fill at least your first prescription.
-
Don't assume you know more than the doctor. Remember that they went to school for almost a decade to be able to treat you. Don't assume that because you know how to 'Google' your symptoms, that you know more than them.
Feel free to add to anything I missed and good luck!
