My partner and I recently became engaged. I want to have an engagement party but don't want to spend ridiculous amounts of money. Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to have a frugal engagement party? We could have it at home so that could cut out the expense of hiring a venue. I had an idea of asking everyone to bring their own alcohol and a plate of food like salad, potato bake, whatever and we would provide meat and some beer and wine. We don't necessarily want gifts so I feel asking for this in lieu of is ok but I don't want people to think we are just tight arses. What are people's thoughts?
