My employer began offering a 401k in 2015, to begin in 2016. Many of us joined up and we were told that there would be employer matching. I took a look at my 401k, did the numbers, and all of the contributions have come from just myself with no employer matching.
I asked about it at work and was told that they would be making a contribution for the year, 2016, in Feb 2017.
I didn't want to push the matter but it has me perplexed. Is this a thing that companies do? Instead of making their matching contributions per paycheck or monthly, they do it yearly? It kind of irks me because I've missed out on any gains that extra money would have given me had they been put in twice monthly as I have been making the contributions due to the time value of money.
