I have gotten tons of free drill bits (the kind for screw heads) -- they're included with a ratchet set I bought, as well as with my drill, and a ratchet screwdriver with its own interchangeable bits.

I've worn out the Phillips and hex bits. I want to buy a new full set of bits (I saw a set of 144 common screwdriver bits at Auto Zone for about $10.) but they all seem to be made of the same cast metal that I know wears out quick.

I asked my neighbor, and she said she just buys 20 packs of Phillips bits and re-up because "they are all going to wear out eventually."

Is this true? Is there a BIFL set of drill/screwdriver bits? My neighbor also cautioned against getting super-hard titanium bits because she said the difference in hardness could result in stripped screws. If this is the case is it a drill issue, an issue with the metal the bits are made of, or just plain operator error?
