I'm 24 and have always bought everything I needed with cash (worked since I was 14, saved my money and only bought things that I could afford- car included). I've been able to finagle my way around situations that require credit checks (paying months in advance on apartments, etc) but that is becoming unrealistic since I now am in college part time (paying out of pocket with no loans since I have no one to cosign and don't qualify for financial aid).

I was able to get a secure credit card with my bank (of $300, eye roll) 2 years ago but I'm not sure how much that helps my credit; I've never been late on my payments, ever.

I would like to apply for a real credit card, but because I have little credit and work part time due to my school schedule, I'm afraid I will be rejected and have that negatively affect my score.

How are some ways I can build credit in this situation?

Is there a way I can check my credit score without my bank deciding to negatively affect my score?

I just don't know where I stand in regard to my credit score and that just makes me anxious.
