Hey All,
Looking for a bit of advice, here's my situation:
I have a 2001 honda accord with 185k miles. Everything works well, it's never left me sit in over ten years. It has been fumey for a while (for months, previously had it checked out, nothing visible) and this past weekend it started leaking gas. I took it to my local repair shop (trustworthy, fair, competent) and the tank is now leaking at the seam. Because of where the tank is located, they have to disassemble the whole rear end to swap it out. I was quoted $750 if everything goes perfect and they don't also need to replace rusty lines, etc. This is for a car worth maybe $1800 if I'm lucky. They said I have 3 options:
- Fix it.
- Drive it, but don't fill up more than 1/3 tank.
- Drive it down to 1/8 tank and trade it in to a dealer.
I'm leaning option 2, my Dad is pushing option 3. He says trade it in on a new 12-15k Kia (10yr/100k warranty). Apparently no one is buying small cars right now and have major factory and dealer rebates. I never thought I'd buy a new car...What say you?
