I'm a 25 year old male with a house. It is 3 bedroom, 2 bath, and fully updated on all floors. The current monthly expenses for it are as follows:
- Monthly with escrow: 1000
- Electric: 100
- Water: 65
- Gas: 100
- Internet: 35
I've followed the general rules of PF and kept the house cost under 3x my annual income, have a budget set up, and no other debts. I'm looking for a fair dollar amount that the girlfriend could pay to stay with me. I will not be adding her name onto the mortgage, so she will not be gaining any equity from the house, which is why I decided against simply splitting the bills in half. Both of us have secure, full-time jobs.
For reference, rent in one bedroom apartments in this part of the country are around $800 a month to stay in the middle class suburbs. I figure 400 a month is fair amount based on the living costs for this area. She will not have to pay for utilities, just the flat 400. My girlfriend's mother and sister believe that she should not be paying anything however, and that it would be in poor taste for me to charge her rent at all.
