Apple's narrative over the last 12 months has been that the runaway success of the 6 was simply impossible to beat with the 6S, and that the 7 and later models would bring growth back to their sales.

The quarterly report tomorrow will put that narrative to the test.

If sales of the 7 do not top the 6, then the dominant market narrative, regardless of what Apple tries to spin, will be that the iphone market is indeed saturated, that most people are probably waiting for the revolutionary "8" and that ultimately, this year for Apple won't be any better than the last.

If sales of the 7 do top the 6, then Apple is vindicated and this last quarter could be the beginning of a new supercycle.
