Inherited 120k unexpectedly
My dad passed away of a heart attack a few months back and the life insurance just came in. Bc my parents are divorced my mom didn’t get it, and the siblings are splitting it (with her). I’m going to try and keep this short. I’m a senior in college (22m) and am gonna graduate in Dec. I’m planning on going into medicine (either doc or anesthesiologist assistant) so I am working and studying for MCAT right now (going to go to grad school in a couple years). My question to you is this: what should I invest in to make this money grow over time? I want/plan to invest in real estate in the next 10 years. I got a full ride to school so outside of this semester I didn’t have any debt. I only have a few credits left so I don’t think I’ll take out loans for it bc it’ll be relatively cheap. I plan on putting 100k into an account for retirement. I’m thinking something with NASDAQ or S&P ETFs and not looking at the account for decades. I have 6k in investments currently (long time holders of AAPL & IRM thanks to some great older brothers). I want to put 5k into an emergency fund (HYSA) as I don’t have many expenses currently and that will last me half a year at a minimum. For the other 15k, should I just put into a HYSA? Invest it more into AI/Data stocks as that’s the next big thing? I have a blueprint but I have no idea what the fuck I’m doing.
