EDIT: I live in California, USA.

EDIT: I'm not binded legally to the car in anyway (loan not in my name, title not in my name) Id consider taking over payments again if I were allowed legal right to the car in some way.

UPDATE: I have a much clearer picture of my options now. Thank you to everyone who replied to my post. I think I know what I need to do next.

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry if this isn't the place to ask this, I'm just looking for help on advice on my current situation. I have been paying $500/mo for a new car for 2 years. Trying to spare as many details as I can for you guys but pretty much this:

2 years ago I was on better terms with my mom and trusted her to help me get a car when i turned 18 and got my first part-time job. I didn't know anything about the car buying process at the time and feel like a sucker now for blindly following her along and trusting her terrible advice then. I wish I had just saved up to buy an older, used car in cash. I'm not materialistic like my mom, I never cared to have a new car but I trusted her since she's my mom. That's not important though I just wanted you all to know how I got in this situation.

Long story short, my car is being taken from me now since the title is in her name not mine. I currently have no legal right to the car right now. I'm refusing to pay for the car unless my mom puts it under my name. I have a good feeling she will come crawling back to me asking to pay for the car since I know she can't pay for 2 new cars (her SUV and my economy sedan). So is there a way for me to get the car in my name if my mom is willing to make the effort? She has been saying that she has tried in the past to put my name on the title but that I don't make enough to get approved but I feel like she is just lying to me and trying to keep control of the car to keep control over me. Please help me see my options.

If I have to buy a car on my own then so be it. It's just that I payed for the car for this long already so I was hoping I'd might as well finish paying and keep it. I'm able to save up slowly since I'm living with my brother for now. Thank you everyone.
