I currently work as a software engineer making approximately $100k annually with 4 years of experience. I recently received an offer for a new position that requires a 1 hour commute each way 4 days a week. This new position pays $140k with a $10k signing bonus and annual bonus of 5-15% of base salary. One of my biggest concerns is that I live in Colorado and the commute can be rough in the snow. The position would be a level higher and a significant career advancement. What should I do? I am already able to cover my monthly expenses (mortgage, insurance, utilities, etc.). Should I take on a hour commute that may involve heavy snow driving for the higher pay and loss of free time?
Edit: I greatly appreciate all of the feedback everyone has provided. I wasn’t expecting so many responses and it has certainly given me a lot to think about.
