I'm a complete novice so forgive my ignorance. If buying stocks is an investment, then the supposition is that overall, the stock market gets bigger and stocks generally tend to grow in value over time, despite some stocks losing value or even some companies going under and their stocks becoming worthless.
Is that the right way to portray it? Or is there something fundamentally wrong about what I said?
