They're claiming I didn't give proper move out notice, took my security deposit and charged me another $400 in fees/unpaid rent. I did give notice, and was looking at fighting it but a lawyer I spoke to today said it probably won't hold up in court because everything is via email and the courts are very landlord-friendly here. So, I went back to look at the statement, which was issued on 9/13, and discovered it was sent to collections this afternoon. I got an email from some company around 5pm.
My credit score is in the 760s, I've literally never missed a payment on anything and I'm looking at buying a house in a little under a year. I'd rather not have a 100 point drop like this.
The property management company has also stopped answering their phones (I had been trying to call them since I got the statement on Wednesday to talk with them about how I did put in notice and provide my paper trail but they aren't having it).
I'm in AZ, btw. I'm totally freaked out. How do I handle this in the least damaging way?
My knee jerk reaction is to pay the property manager directly and then write Hunter Warfield that I've already paid it but I also think that won't work?
