72 years and 5 MONTHS, sorry.

My parents have a history of just really awful financial choices. I don't know how I have a credit score approaching 820, you'd think they'd look at my parents and say he's a 500'er the rest of his life.

Long story short, I found out today that my mother DID NOT ENROLL for her social security payments when she turned 70... even though all research says that you MUST do this on that day, even if you are still working.

We immediately sat down and got this done. It took 45 mins MAX and from what I have calculated out there is 40ishK that she put in that she will not get out.. this is after taxes (that she must pay because she is still working) AND the fact that she requested the 6 months back pay. 6 months back is nice, but when you consider that she waited 29 months past the day when she should have started collecting, this is a MASSIVE screw up on her part, my part, my fathers part and every single person that should have brought this up.

I have a history of being the person in the family that tries to steer them in the correct direction, this one just snuck up on me as I'm about 30+ years away from having to worry about it.

Has anyone here ever found a way to get some of this back?? Even if a lawyer takes 25k of it, it would still be worth it!
