A couple months ago someone opened up a Wells Fargo checking account with my nickname and last name (think Mike Smith instead of Michael Smith). Wells Fargo detected inconsistencies and cancelled the account. I got a letter sent to my in-laws, which I lived at for about 2 months before buying our house about 8 years ago.
Now a couple months later I got a debit card (another checking account) for Discover with the same name used and using my in-laws address again. Discover sent a letter saying they tried to change the email on the account from my actual email to a random email. Ran my credit reports and no hits I could see. I’m in the process of running a ChexSystems report right now. I’ve also put a fraud alert out to all the credit agencies after the Wells Fargo thing and reached out to discover to alert them of the fraud. Is there anything else I can/should be doing? What are they looking to do with these accounts? I appreciate any advice in advance.
