37 making 35k a year in Florida. I cooked for 20 years and recently got my CDL but have no trucking experience.
18.5k on a car loan including negative equity from a previous car(current car is a 17 Ford focus ST 51k miles) 2.1k on a motorcycle loan. 2.3k on a school loan. No other debt. No 401k offered at my current job and yes I'm actively looking for a new job. No retirement. 1.5k emergency fund. No other savings. A whole lot of regret and disliking myself.
I could sell my car which would pay that loan off. Id then ride my motorcycle eventhough I do have access to a 09 dodge grand caravan with 140k miles. My car loan is 385 a month but I've paid 430 a month every month since I got it. Currently I'm putting 300a month towards gas and food and everything else is going towards my motorcycle.
So I'm thinking utilize my motorcycle and aggressively pay off my loans and in 3-4 years have no debt and a 60k mile car or sell the car and put that 430 a month toward a Roth(bumping it up 112 when the bike is paid and another 75 after school is paid) but then in the future have to buy a car and with things as they are now I'd probably end up with a worse car than I have now with more miles on it.
I'd love to be debt free and finally building a retirement but I'm not sure if being carless in Florida is the better choice.
Housing is currently living with and taking care of my retired-on-disability father in his paid for 290k house. In exchange for cooking, cleaning, laundry, maintenance and repairs(new paint, wooden privacy fence, irrigation, roof, garage door opener, etc), shopping, etc my father walks my dog twice a day(my dog walks while my father uses his mobility scooter) and I pay no rent.
My father currently has ~250k in stocks, the house and the wooded lot next to the house which will go to my brother and i when my father passes. His will says "share and share alike" and my brother is the person in charge of it(i don't remember the exact term but it's not executor). My brother knows i want the house and the lot while he can have the money but im not sure if he will go for that as when i bring it up he doesn't answer one way or the other. And being that he's in charge he could totally screw me over and take everything leaving me homeless.
