My family and I are in a crunch. We have 4 small kids and our lease is up with no possibility of renewing. Rent for our area is over $3k/mo. Wife makes consistent income of $3k/mo. wheras my work is inconsistent and I average $2k/mo.
Friend of ours is selling lot of land (ready with all utility hookups) for $80k, which we can pay cash (we have $110k). Another friend is offering a free double-wide mobile home for free if we move it.
Don't really know what costs/headaches go into moving a mobile home, but that option is looking really good compared to possibly 3.5k monthly rent.
**edit to add, we don't really qualify for a loan amount large enough to purchase a home in this area (Arizona, and the prices are ridiculous) otherwise we'd go that route.
