I applied for a job on Indeed about a month ago, and pretty quickly got a response from the company, inviting me to join a group zoom where the CEO explained the company and the job description. It's in an industry that I've had interest in for a long time, but have never found a company hiring in said industry, as it's a small and specialized industry.
Anyway, during the zoom, they mentioned that there is a roughly $2500 "partner deposit" in order for them to set you up as a 1099, train you, and create your website and business cards. The job title is Regional Managing Partner, and I would be starting my own LLC to sell the company's software and services. They also said that they place sales people on your team to help you get started selling the software subscription that is the core of their business. The compensation is strictly commission + volume bonuses.
The CEO is a charasmatic pitchman, but the interview process wasn't just a cake walk. I interviewed with the CEO, then the President of the company, and then I had to give a 10 minute presentation on why I would be a good addition to the company, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A from the 4 executives in attendance on the Zoom (CEO, COO, head of public relations, and the Partner Liasion for my half of the US.
I made it through all of that, worked really hard on all of it, and now they've invited me to join the business. Of course, now I'm staring at the Stripe credit card payment page to pay the $2500...and I just hear this sub's mantra about "you should never have to give money to a company to get hired..."
But is this different than that? Because it's sort of like buying a franchise maybe? The opportunity really appeals to me, and I'd like to take it...but I'm not sure what to do anymore.
Any thoughts? Thank you so much in advance.
EDIT: Thanks all, it sounds like it's an MLM. I'm super embarrassed for falling for it, but I appreciate you all saving me before I gave them any money.
