Background:
I have a traditional IRA I opened in 2013 from my first career. The person who manages it told me on a phone call recently that it was an 'old' IRA and maybe I shouldn't add to it, but open something new (since I was inquiring about adding contributions this year now that I'm making money again). He also told me it earns like 4.5% but there is a 3% fee. I have scoured my statements and can't see any fees. I've written his secretary to ask me how to see the fees on my statements and am awaiting her answer. He set up an appt recently with me, then when I called at the right time, told me I had the wrong date; I managed to get a quick conversation in. I just really don't like this person in general. I chose this IRA in 2013 when I was leaving my previous job and wanted to roll over the retirement funds I'd accumulated into a place where I didn't have to deal with my former company. I had a timeline and was pretty uneducated, so I found this guy's name on a Dave Ramsey website and set it up through him. In the first meeting I got these vibes that he looked down on me for having worked for so long at a non-profit, but whatever, I had a timeline and had to get it set up.
I now have a small business so am setting up a SEP IRA and will max contribute to that going forward. I'm also actively looking for a new financial advisor with whom I'll discuss both IRA's and other small business questions.
Question:
Is there a way to move the money from this original old 2013 to somewhere else so I don't have to deal with the original guy? Or just leave the money there, and do all my new investing/planning with my new advisor?
Thanks!
