Interesting conversation I had.

A friend mentioned that the reason why she shops at grocery stores (where you bag your own groceries) is because it's generally cheaper, compared to grocery stores that are known to bag for you. That's because the store doesn't pay for the extra labor, so it can focus on keeping the product costs lower. This was actually stated in the grocery store's website.

Anyway, if she does happen to shop at a store where they are known to bag, she will specifically ask to have hers bagged in her reusable bags, because she feels this justifies the extra cost on the stores' product costs. However, ever since the pandemic happened, cashiers don't want to bag anymore even though the store allows them to. Thus, she just avoids those grocerie stores altogether to feel like she's getting the better deal.

I understand what she means, but I never thought about it until she mentioned it. She said it's something frugal people commonly do, so just wanted to see, what do you guys think? If you knew that the product costs were set a bit higher to accommodate the pay for the cashiers that are supposed to bag your groceries (but they don't), would you still keep shopping there?
