So I'll keep it brief.

I used Spectrum for internet services like, 2-3 years ago. I never missed a payment (I've never missed a payment on literally anything), and when I moved, I turned in all of my hardware at the nearest Spectrum store (It was all perfectly working and in good condition), paid my remaining balance, and moved on.

Then, nearly a year later, I start getting calls and letters from collections, claiming I owe Spectrum $88. Now, I KNOW I do not owe them money as I made sure I was all paid up at the time of drop off. Eventually, they hit my credit with a collection notice. I disputed it on all 3 credit agencies, and it was prompty removed from my credit report on all 3. Two of them removed it instantly on my dispute, and one took a few weeks before removing it.

I am getting more letters, claiming I still owe it, and that if I don't pay by next month, they are gonna hit my credit score again.

To me, $88 is not much. I make a good living and could afford it. It's more about the fact that I do not want to give in, and pay a moderate sum of money for something I genuinely do not owe. And if I DID owe it, I should have been made aware of it at the time of dropping off my equipment (I DID pay them what they said I DID owe at that time as well.)

ALSO, I received ZERO notice from Spectrum prior to it going to collections a year later. No letters, no phone calls, nothing. My first notice was the initial hit on my credit report, followed by tons of phone calls and letters.

I guess my main question is, if they DO try to stick it to my credit report a second time, do you guys think it will be just as simple as disputing it like the first time?

And ultimately, is there anything else I can do? I definitely don't want to pay it, but like I said, it's not really much money to me.

Thank you for the help.

Edit: My most recent letter claims it is $80.88 in service charges. I cancelled my service and was told I had paid everything off at time of drop off. It does not specify for what month of service or anything else. What it DOES say is that if I do not dispute it in writing, the debt collector will assume this debt is 'valid'. Not sure if that has any legality to it or not. I have not sent a letter since 2nd grade, and would prefer not to have to do that only to be met with 'we did an internal investigation and yep, it's still valid.'
