Myself and my gf both earn pretty much the same wage, but her spending habits are horrendous, like its hard to explain. She's constantly non stop spending on weird things that don't need to be purchased. Like there's an amazon delivery daily and it's almost always junk, she will go to the shops almost twice a week to buy cleaning products for the house that aren't needed spends about £100 everytime, always wants something doing to the house like there's never a break whether it be a new front door, new kitchen cupboards, new flooring like its nice and all but our house is a new build and we don't need to be constantly nonstop spending hundreds almost every month on decorating an already nice house (her mums the same) it adds up big time and destroys our joint account which is constantly slightly over drawn and when I look at the statements all the money spent is her. We're in a very lucky situation we're after our bills we are left with about £44k disposable income a year (due to both our inheritances paying off the mortgage) and could very easily become financially independent. She's incredibly negative about this, mention investments her response is "were not rich businessmen", mention buying a buy to let property she cries and says "I want to sort my own house before I worry about someone else living in a house I own" (watches too many programmes on landlords being screwed over). She wants to enjoy her life now and not spend it saving 🤦♂️ It's frustrating because I feel like I have all the ingredients to becoming well off and not have to work a 9-5 my entire life then die 2 years after retiring and she's literally the only thing stopping me from doing so. Her spending habits are basically a copy and paste of her mums who's only financial commitment is she has to pay for food shopping, works a good full time job but spending habits leaver her skint. I don't want to live.my entire life poor because of my partner.
