I have an unfounded suspicion that a fast food worker snapped a photo of my card at a drive through. Alternatively, I guess it could have been skimmed? Anyway, my bank quickly caught it and sent me a text message "Hey, are you really at this McDonalds?" Uh, no? So I called in and they said my card was compromised. "But I was led to believe that chip cards like mine were impregnable, because when other people are in my situation, their banks tell them that the charges are valid because there's no way chip cards can be compromised." My bank lady laughed and said that my bank knows better. We identified my legit transactions and the fraudulent ones and cancelled the card, and they're sending me a new one.

I was venting about it to my carpenter guy and he said one of his employees actually SAW a fast food worker snap a photo of his card. I don't know what good having just the number and code off the back is, but I know that if I put a sticker over (some of) my card number, that I'll still be able to tap/insert/swipe it no problem, and it eliminates that vector for attack. Am I being silly?
