This is both a tip/advice and a request for tips/advice:
I bought the Walmart brand great value instant brown rice. It was on sale and I’d just moved/hadn’t started a new job yet and needed some quick and easy food that I could gather on the one trip (so yes I know regular rice in big bags is better value etc. At the time it was not an option).
Anyway, I’m not going to waste food so I’ve been using this rice and honestly, it sucks. It’s supposed to be 50/50 rice and water, ready in 10 minutes. Except if you follow that there’s always both too much water and the rice stays undercooked. Ready in 10 minutes is completely false because you cook it as instructed and then have to let is sit to absorb the leftover water and fluff. You could wait 20 minutes and it STILL won’t have absorbed the leftover water, and the rice is poorly cooked at rubbery.
So assuming based on the above that the provided instructions are poorly chosen/inaccurate, does anyone have any found methods to cook it better? I don’t want to waste a box of this stuff but I’m tired of poorly done rice.
EDIT: I’m in Canada, not sure if that’s different. The box instructions clearly state 10 minutes, as does the website page (screenshot).
