A budget ipad cost 330$. And ipad air cost 600$.
You are totally fine with 330$ ipad. It fits you need. It is cheaper. There are inconvenience such as charging/pen, etc. But you can deal with them. No problem. You can save 270$ and use it on something else.
But you can definitely afford the more expensive 600$ one. It cost 70% more. But no inconvenience. Better screen, pen, everything. And you will use it everyday for studying in university. Because it is better, you might not need to replace it for many years (hopefully).
Which one should a person buy? It is not an tech question, but really a personal finance question. Replace ipad with car/home/shoe anything. A more expensive things that provide better experience and may last long and you can afford it. OR a less expensive that is also good enough and you can save some money.
Honestly, I come from a poor family. Never used an apple product. Now it is more comfortable situation and I can afford more expensive stuffs. But it is difficult to justify spending 600$ on an ipad, compared to my 300 $ laptop and 200$ phone. I also already have really great PC.
