A guy in a uniform with a clipboard knocked on my apartment door saying he is with the energy company, that he's heard complaints about users getting overcharged in this building, and that everyone in the building is switching energy providers. I'm new to the area, and before I knew it, I signed a contract switching over. You need a key to get inside the apartment building, so I figured he was legit. Moments later I ran into the superintendent who informed me the guy is a scam artist.

After I realized what happened, I called my energy provider and they said no changes have been made yet as far as they can tell, so they put a block on my account preventing anyone from switching me or charging me somehow.

The representative sent me several PDF documents, including directions on how to cancel. Should I still go through the process of calling and canceling, or should I just ignore it since my energy company put the block on it? Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Also, he initially asked for my phone number, then texted me a link which I accessed on my laptop and proceeded to sign the documents etc. Should I be worried that clicking on that link from my laptop infested it with a virus or something?
