I recently applied for and received a promotion at my current job, moving up to a supervisory role from a high-ranking technical one. My base pay was changed to salary and increased by 14% but because of all the overtime I worked as a technician, my gross income will be approximately 88% of what it was before. Last year I worked 450+ hours of overtime, however, so I think the switch may have been worth it, assuming I actually work only 40 hours/week in my new position.

Thoughts on this? I want to feel like I made a good choice for my work/life balance and mental health (I worked 15 months last year, essentially) but it seems like higher gross income is always the goal.

While writing this i realized that my 401k match is only calculated for base pay and not overtime so there is some benefit there.
