The last year has been a real bummer. Lost my job in live sound; thanks, COVID. Got a divorce early 2021 after a year of added stressors associated with lockdown.
Fast forward 6 months, bought a beat down (but solid) house for cash with the leftovers from selling our house. I've been cleaning and painting and fixing for about 2 months. Starting accounting classes for a new, remote work friendly career, and needed a workspace that wasn't slumping over on the couch to poke at a laptop.
So I decided to finish one room, all the way. Sanded the floor (not a full refinish, the dog will destroy it, lol), put a few coats of urethane down, and painted. Got some butcher block, and some pipe and fittings from the hardware store, a little paint and polyurethane, and went to town. i'm quite pleased. for about $600, i've got desks that will last longer than I do, no question. And it feels really good to have a win.
