Due to woefully long processing times at the USCIS, my work authorization (I’m an immigrant) has lapsed and I cannot legally work until it comes through. I don’t qualify for any assistance of any kind due to my legal status.

I have been unemployed since May of this year and based on the most recent update, it looks like I will be unemployed for another 3 months.

I have about $15k left in my emergency fund that I’m using during this time, and I would appreciate any recommendations I can get to make it last longer. Here’s a breakdown of my expenses:

Rent + utilities: $1250

Car: $285

Phone: $30

Gas + groceries: $450 (I have a toddler I’m responsible for, we don’t eat out at all. I shop at Aldi and Costco mostly)

Based on this, I can go another 7 months with the savings I have. Is there anything else I can do to stretch this money out?

PS: I’ve requested the USCIS to expedite my case and also requested my senator to intervene citing financial loss, I’ve sent credit card statements and doctor notes (I have PTSD) but the USCIS has said this isn’t urgent/serious enough to warrant an expedite.
